baby it’s cold outside book tag ❄️️| blogmas day 2

welcome back to blogmas day two! i know it’s not december 2nd by the time i post this, but i’m taking a very liberal take on blogmas. still, there’ll be at least 12 blogmas-related posts this december.

anyway, today’s post is a book tag which i was kindly tagged by the original creator, the lovely erin @readingonastar. 💖 do check out her post! though singapore’s weather has been chiller these days, the perpetually hot climate still lingers. this book tag is the best way to feel like i’m celebrating the season changing.

without further ado, let’s jump into my answers.

⛄ Questions:

Snow Day – What’s your “comfort” book? 🌧️

weirdly, the stalking jack the ripper series by kerri maniscalco is the first that popped up in my mind. i think it’s because of the romance and love that gradually grew between audrey rose and thomas. they’re my favorite couple to read about. also, perfect series to read during winter especially book two, hunting prince dracula that takes place in a cold setting.

Snow Angels – What’s a book that you love so much you would want to be buried with it (a little morid, but…)? 👼🏼

if i’m going to the grave with a book, i would want it to always surprise me no matter how many times i’d be rereading it. i’ll willingly bury with the poppy war trilogy by r.f. kuang. they can step on me, and i’ll say thank you very much. for my thoughts, check out my reviews for the poppy war, the dragon republic and the burning god. take note of the trigger warnings too!

Warm Socks – What’s a book that makes you feel warm inside? (The fluffiest, cutest romance you’ve ever read?) 🔥

rep: autism, biracial vietnamese LI

i loved the kiss quotient by helen hoang. stella’s a STEM woman working with math and algorithms. while working in a competitive industry that’s mostly dominated by males, stella has no time to develop a dating life. so she hires michael to help her. michael’s soft, sweet and kind. a wonderful person in general. their romance was cute and fluffy.

also, next in the series are the bride test (which i adored) and the heart principle (coming out in 2021) that you should read too.

Hot Cocoa – What winter-themed novels have you previously read? 🍫

does a game of thrones by george r.r. martin count? i mean, “winter is coming” is the stark’s motto, and there’s a whole deal with the night walkers.

Sledding – What’s a book with the best plot twists? Who’s an author that always keeps you on your toes? 🛷

the amount of plot twists i was encountering throughout the wolf of oren-yaro by k.s. villoso was crazy, and it intensified in book two, the ikessar falcon. queen talyien’s a confusing character who went through a whole load. there’s no knowing what will happen next.

honorary mention: the poppy war trilogy. i’m looking at you chapter 21 in the burning god.

Ugly Sweaters – What’s a book with the ugliest cover? 🧥

i’m sorry but there are a couple covers. one of it is the vampire academy series covers. yes, even the new covers. also, the newest cover for a court of silver flames by sarah j. maas is a huge no for me. i prefer consistency and would rather they continue with the art style from the first three books.

Movie Marathon – What’s the last book you binge read? 🎬

i loved this. the fountains of silence by ruta sepetys was amazing. i read it within a day. while it wasn’t as heartbreaking as salt to the sea, the whole storyline of the fountains of silence was painful to read too. before going into the book, i had little knowledge of franco’s dictatorship in spain. the author added snippets of news articles and interviews between chapters to illustrate what happened in real life.

Letter to Santa – What’s a book that’s on your wishlist this year? 🎅

as a book lover, i’ll always have books i want so i can never just choose one.

  • skyhunter by marie lu
  • the silence of bones by june hur
  • cemetery boys by aiden thomas
