Hey everyone! Now that April is over, we’re back with a bi-monthly wrap up. As usual, I spent a lot of time reading books, watching shows and just chilling these two months. I’m living my best life. In March, the number of books that I read is 44 while in April, I read 35 books. With the total of 154 books, I reached my Goodreads goal. Yay! 🎉🥂 Achieved this way before I did last year since I’m pretty much doing nothing other than reading for the most of 2021.
Shows I’m recently obsessed with: Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) season 2 part 1 and Tian Guan Ci Fu (Heavenly’s Official Blessing). Because both are animated adaptations of written works, I had an overwhelming desire to read the manga/manhua and the light novels which I’ll be doing for the subsequent months. Thankfully, Slime season 2 part 2 will be out in June/July this year so I’m not totally left hanging. Though it’s confirmed that season 2 of Heavenly’s Officially Blessing will be happening, it probably won’t be out until early 2022. 😭😭
By the same author, Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, there are the animated and live adaptations of Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation/The Untamed which I binged within just under a week. Due to censorship, the web series didn’t necessarily portray the lovers’ relationship explicitly but from the actors’ body languages and facial expressions, you can see how much they care for one another. I’ll probably be reading this novel after I’m done with Heaven Official’s Blessing. Season 3 for Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation will be out soon too!
Since May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, I’ll be focusing on reading and reviewing Asian-authored books only. You can look forward to all the posts coming up soon and here’s my TBR for May.
This will be a long post so buckle up.

Most of the books I read in March are in adult contemporary romance, young adult fantasy and adult historical romance genres which isn’t a surprise since these types of books are my favorites anyway. Best books this month are Yolk by Mary H.K. Choi, The Ones We’re Meant to Find by Joan He and You’ve Reached Sam by Dustin Thao.
🐚 The Ones We’re Meant to Find by Joan He (May 4, 2021) ➙ epic and freaking amazing. I’m in awe with the author’s mind.
🐚 The Tangleroot Palace: Stories by Marjorie M. Liu (June 15, 2021) ➙ each short story has a unique setting and a diverse set of characters in terms of races and sexual identities
🐚 You’ve Reached Sam by Dustin Thao (November 2, 2021) ➙ dang, I sobbed from page one and couldn’t stop.
🐚 Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney ➙ i got bored. the author doesn’t use quotation marks when a character is speaking. sadly, not for me.
🐚 Mister Moneybags by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward ➙ the twist at the end was a huge no from me. Most of the books by this author duo, I love but not this.
🐚 The Siren by Kiera Cass ➙ dnf this in February but reread just so that I can finish it. Didn’t like the execution of the plot despite the originality of the idea. Couldn’t be bothered with the romance either.
🐚 Imagine Me by Tahereh Mafi ➙ wanted the second trilogy to be amazing but nope. I gradually lost interest.
Backlisted books ticked off:
🐚 How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black ➙ with this, I’m done with The Cruel Prince series. It’s nice to read about Jude and Cardan again.
🐚 From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout ➙ i’ve always enjoyed JLA’s paranormal books. Heard quite a bit of mixed review about this but was entertained nonetheless.
🐚 The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern ➙ magical, amazing, and absolutely enchanting. I wanted to buy the hardcover but it was too expensive and I couldn’t wait anymore.
🐚 P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han ➙ would like this more if I read this years ago. It would appeal to the younger me but I’m not super attached to any character nor am I super invested in the romance.

This was the month I fell in love with Heaven Official’s Blessing and proceeded to only focus on reading the web novel. I savoured every word and every detail between Hua Cheng and Xie Lian. This romance that spanned over 800 years warmed my heart despite all of the obstacles they both went through.
🐚 Witches Steeped in Gold by Ciannon Smart (April 20, 2021) ➙ witches and magic that you don’t want to miss.
🐚 The Last Shadow Warrior by Sam Subity (May 4, 2021) ➙ middle grade Norse mythology of a young girl training to be an Aesir.
🐚 Girl Online by Zoe Sugg ➙ would’ve liked this better if I were younger.
🐚 Want by Cindy Pon ➙ sci-fi dystopian setting with a group of teens trying to destroy a corporation
🐚 Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin ➙ this was okay. I’m not invested in the characters but the overall plot is interesting. Will be continuing this trilogy.
🐚 The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows ➙ one of the longest duology in my TBR. Not entirely sold on the main character but still expecting her to showcase her powers in the next book.
