16 sequels from 2021 july to december for series that i’ve started

Hello, now that we’re halfway through the year, I’m back with just lists and lists of new releases for July to December. In this particular post, I’ll be talking about the continuation of the series that I’ve already started as I did for the January to June 2021 releases.

Since most of these are sequels, I wouldn’t be going into the synopsis of the book itself (cause spoilers) but rather that of the first book of the series. In the list, there’s a mixture of contemporary romances and fantasy. 2021 has truly blessed me with amazing books.

Release dates are subjected to changes. If you’re aware of any trigger warnings that should come with the book, please let me know!

Book(s) not featured in this list due to lack of information: A Dance with the Fae Prince by Elise Kova (no cover) that’s coming out on August 19th.

isn’t it bromantic? (bromance book club #4)
– lyssa kay adams

age range: adult
genre: contemporary, romance

Vlad, the Russian whose farts would shake the world, finally has his own book with a mysterious wife that nobody knew about until now. Amongst all the guys that appeared throughout this series, Vlad is the quietest one. This gentle giant entered a marriage of convenience with his childhood friend. He thought he could handle a one-sided relationship but now, Vlad joined the Bromance Book Club for some ideas to make his wife fall in love with him.

I’m unbelievably excited for Isn’t It Bromantic? and meeting Vlad’s wife, Elena.

devil in disguise (the ravenels #7)
– lisa kleypas

age range: adult
genre: historical fiction, romance

I thought we were done with The Ravenels series but Lisa Kleypas has blessed us with another book! A widower, Merritt has been running her late husband’s shipping company while Keir’s a Scottish whiskey distiller.

Merritt is the eldest of Lillian and Marcus’s children of It Happened One Autumn (Wallflowers series), which happens to be the only book in the series that I haven’t read. Not sure why this isn’t a whole other series of its own but since Keir is somehow related to Sebastian, I guess this would make sense too.

gods & monsters (serpent & dove #3)
– shelby mahurin

age range: young adult
genre: fantasy

Only read Serpent & Dove but I enjoyed it enough to know that I’ll be continuing the trilogy. The personality differences of Lou and Reid were interesting especially when one is a witch and the other has vowed to kill witches. I’ll still need to read Blood & Honey though.

the dating playbook (the boyfriend project #2)
– farrah rochon

age range: adult
genre: contemporary, romance
rep: learning disability, mental health, black MC

The fake dating trope has always been a favorite of mine. In The Dating Playbook, Taylor Powell, a personal trainer, and Jamar Dixon, a footballer, were accidentally outed as a couple when the former was just training Jamar to return to the NFL.

I really liked The Boyfriend Project even though the circumstance in which London, Taylor, and Samiah met was horrifying. Now that we’re getting another of this series, I’m incredibly happy.

the heart principle (the kiss quotient #3)
– helen hoang

age range: adult
genre: contemporary, romance
rep: Asperger’s syndrome

Ever since The Kiss Quotient, I’ve been keeping my eyes out for more Helen Hoang books, and this year, we have The Heart Principle that features Anna and Quan, who is the brother of Khai from The Bride Test.

After going viral and achieving a violinist career, Anna started experiencing burnouts. Not only that, her longtime boyfriend wants an open relationship before settling down with her (wtf?), and an angry Anna agreed. Quan underwent a life-changing surgery which left him doubtful and insecure. I think The Heart Principle will be a healing journey for both Anna and Quan as they figure out their personal problems.

the hawthorne legacy (the inheritance games #2)
– jennifer lynn barnes

age range: young adult
genre: contemporary, mystery

The Inheritance Games featured Avery who unexpectedly inherited an insane amount of fortune from someone she doesn’t even know existed. Involved are the wealthy man’s four Hawthorne grandsons, two of who she got close to throughout the book. The Hawthorne Legacy will follow Avery, Grayson, and Jameson to discover more mysteries surrounding the Hawthorne family. I’m not one for love triangles but still intrigued by how things will develop with everyone.

preorder the book

the hollow heart (the midnight lie #2)
– marie rutkoski

age range: young adult
genre: fantasy, romance, lgbt
rep: POC lesbian MC, lesbian LI

Couldn’t stop thinking about The Hollow Heart when The Midnight Lie had that ending. In this world, there’s a caste system based on their Kith. Nirrim lives in the outer sector with people of the lower status. After meeting Sid, a traveler, Nirrim questions the status quo and finds out the truth behind the legends of the gods.

The Hollow Heart will uncover more about the gods, Nirrim’s plans as well as the relationship development between Nirrim and Sid.

the bronzed beasts (the gilded wolves #3)
– roshani chokshi

age range: young adult
genre: fantasy, historical fiction, romance, lgbt
rep (TGW): south african (algerian) MC, bi/pansexual filipino-spanish MC, autistic polish-jewish MC, indian MC, queer black Haitian MC

Everyone is probably looking forward to the finale of The Gilded Wolves series. I still need to read The Silvered Serpents which I have high hopes for. I re-read The Gilded Wolves earlier this year and fell in love with the setting and the characters once more.

Honestly, I’m a little terrified to be continuing on. Reading books with a large cast makes me worry. I know I’ll be attached to most of the characters and if one of them dies or betrays the others, devastated would be an understatement.

when night breaks (kingdom of cards #2)
– janella angeles

age range: young adult
genre: fantasy, romance

Read Where Dreams Descend recently and absolutely found myself immerse in the strange mystery behind disappearing female magicians. Kallia has always wanted to be more than just a showgirl but the idea of venturing outside was constantly rejected by Jack, the keeper of the club she’s working at. Surrounded by magic and striving to be the main headliner of the Conquering Circus, Kallia didn’t care about the dangers or any consequences. Demarco’s past will be revealed as he gets closer to the dazzling female magician.

kingdom of the cursed (kingdom of the wicked #2)
– kerri maniscalco

age range: young adult
genre: fantasy, historical fiction, romance

Anything Kerri Maniscalco writes, I will read, especially romances. Kingdom of the Wicked is set in 1800s Sicily, Italy featuring witchcraft and demonic magic. Despite living in secrecy as a witch, Emilia’s twin sister was murdered. To find out why, Emilia used dark magic and meets Wrath, a Wicked Prince of Hell.

In Kingdom of the Cursed, readers will know more about the other Princes, more specifically, the Prince of Pride. Unable to trust anyone, Emilia will be surrounded by threats of danger without any support.

aristotle and dante dive into the waters of the world (aristotle and dante #2)
– benjamin alire sáenz

age range: young adult
genre: contemporary, romance, lgbt
rep: m/m romance

When this second book was announced, I couldn’t believe it. Aristotle and Dante had a beautiful, fluffy romance in Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe while they handled their personal issues. There’s a wonderful representation of supportive, loving families. I can’t wait to see what else these two will get into in Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World.

girls of fate and fury (girls of paper and fire #3)
– natasha ngan

age range: young adult
genre: fantasy, romance, lgbt
rep: chinese & malaysian-inspired, f/f romance

Girls of Fate and Fury will be the final installment of the Girls of Paper and Fire series. Only read Girls of Paper and Fire, book one, when Lei, a Paper caste, was taken to become one of the demon king’s concubines, as the ninth which never happened before. There, she falls for another concubine.

The world-building inspired by Malaysia was extensive and well-developed. Lei, an ordinary girl, is not skilled in fighting or possesses any special girl. Watching her navigate court politics based on her own wits and garnering trust because of her personality was amazing.

the righteous (the beautiful #3)
– renée ahdieh

age range: young adult
genre: fantasy, historical fiction, romance

We’re getting another book from The Beautiful series, this time from Pippa’s perspective. I’m all caught up with the original duology that starred Celine as she ventures into the supernatural world of vampires and werewolves while falling in love with Sébastien in 1872 New Orleans.

The disappearance of Celine will lead Pippa into the world of the fae with the charming Arjun who we all know and adore in The Beautiful. How exciting! Also, I think we might have a fourth book? It appearing on Goodreads but I’m not too sure. We shall see!

preorder the book

our violent ends (these violent delights #2)
– chloe gong

age range: young adult
genre: fantasy, historical fiction, romance, romeo and juliet retelling, lgbt
rep: chinese MC, korean queer SC, queer SC, transgender SC

I had the best time reading These Violent Delights last year. Forbidden lovers, Juliette Cai and Roma Montagov are heirs of the two rival gangs in 1926 Shanghai. Despite their feelings for one another, nothing can be done. However, they were soon forced to work together to prevent madness from spreading.

With that ending of book one, Roma and Juliette are once again at odds. The ominous title of Our Violent Ends doesn’t bode well at all. If anything, it’s an indication of what may come, and that just makes me fearful of my beloved characters’ future. This is going to be a painful one but I’m here to stay because, honestly, where else would I be?

the singles table (marriage game #3)
– sara desai

age range: adult
genre: contemporary, romance
rep: desi MC

I think there’s a sunshine/grumpy trope in The Singles Table~ Zara and Jay made a deal in which the former will find Jay the love of his life while he introduces her to some celebrities. Now, having read The Marriage Game which features two opposing personalities, I know I’m in for a ride with The Singles Table.

Whenever I read a book that has the main characters finding someone special for one another, I gleefully anticipate the moment they realize that the one they’re looking for is right in front of them this whole time. I have no doubt that I will be having lots of fun. Can’t wait!

jade legacy (the green bone saga #3)
– fonda lee

age range: adult
genre: urban fantasy, lgbt
rep: asian

THE CLAN IS MY BLOOD AND THE PILLAR IS ITS MASTER

Let’s just say, I’ve waited for freaking long for this to be released. Frankly, I was devastated when I found out that Jade Legacy will only be released at the end of the year because I’m dying to know what will happen next since July 11, 2019, when I finished Jade War. However, with all the blessings in the world, I’ll be getting my hands on this baby in early December. That’s all I want.

Anyway, Kekon is now inundated by people all over the world who want a piece of jade that allows one to access supernatural abilities. The Kaul family and the usage of these jades will be forever changed. Fonda Lee said that Jade Legacy will span 20 years even when it picked up a year after the end of book two. CAN I JUST– WTF?

Firstly, I’m terrified because TWENTY YEARS? Secondly, who is going to die next? We know Fonda Lee is merciless. Thirdly, I demand therapy and a year worth of free bubble tea if everything turned into shit and there’s no light or hope in this world.

  1. All of these look amazing Belle!! I cannot wait to read Our Violent Ends and Kingdom of the Cursed. The first books in each of those series were some of my favorite reads from 2020 so I can’t wait to see how the story continues 🙂
