Tricia Levenseller’s writing sucked me right into the world of pirates and sirens. I was reading this during the time when I was waiting for more One Piece episodes and this tided me over. Daughter of the Pirate King was such a quick read. The author skillfully gave me a sense of the world without dumping chunks of information.
Alosa’s a badass captain commandeering a ship of women pirates. Though she might be a ruthless pirate, there were moments where her compassion and affectionate side takes over especially for her crew.
“I am me because I choose to be me. I am what I want. Some people say you have to find yourself. Not I. I believe we create ourselves to be what we want.”
Standing between her and the map she’s determined to find is Riden, her captor, the first mate of the ship she purposefully allowed herself to be captured. As Alosa starts to know Riden more, she finds out that he isn’t that bad after all. Riden’s cleverness and wittiness matched Alosa’s sarcasm brilliantly. The romance was a slow burn and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Books set at sea aren’t usually what I pick up since I was disappointed by books like that in the past but with Daughter of the Pirate King, I’m once again looking forward to books with pirates and sirens in them.

When Vordan exposes a secret her father has kept for years, Alosa and her crew find themselves in a deadly race with the feared Pirate King. Despite the danger, Alosa knows they will recover the treasure first . . . after all, she is the daughter of the Siren Queen.

One thing I won’t forget from Daughter of the Pirate King is Alosa’s fiery personality. In book two, we see more of her as a captain, especially when she had to make tough decisions. With the Pirate King chasing them across the seas, Alosa proved herself to be a strong and independent leader. I loved that we got to see Alosa the siren too. She impressively wielded her powers frequently, and she made use of her siren side to get the job done whenever necessary.
Riden fitted nicely with the rhythm of the Ava-Lee crew. The witty banter between Alosa and Riden was something I missed during the wait for Daughter of the Siren Queen. He took some time getting used to Alosa’s siren side. The romance is still burning as slowly as before but their interactions are increasingly enjoyable to read. The attraction is there but with the formidable Pirate King hot on their heels, the romance became a secondary thought.
He’s been so open with me. If I want to take this jump with him, it’s my turn.
“I think you love me,” I say.
“I do.”
The secondary characters were amazing too, especially Rosalyn who is a badass. Each of the characters has their unique style and I could differentiate them even though there were many of them. From the silent Sorinda to Niridia the logical first mate to Kearan the drunkard, all of them have interesting personalities. I want to know more about their background and story. Also, we got to know more about Alosa’s mother who has been a mysterious identity this whole time.
Similar to my previous experience of book one, I flew through Daughter of the Siren Queen. Tricia Levenseller kept me on my toes the entire time with her world-building and fantastic writing. So much action, so much fun and so much adventure to wrap up a wonderful duology.

heyy…nice review, also is this book similar to “TO KILL A KINGDOM”??? i wanted to read daughter of pirate king but i’m a bit hesitant because i fear it has the same plot as this book.

they’re kind of similar but have their own unique paths and direction. but honestly, i read “daughter of the pirate king” and “to kill a kingdom” within a week and didn’t think it’s too similar.
