percy jackson/heroes of olympus edition | book tag

first book tag of the new year is dedicated to PERCY JACKSON/HEROES OF OLYMPUS. one of my mission is to finish reading ALL of rick riordan’s mythological series from percy jackson and the olympians to the trials of apollo. i’m still left with the three magnus chase and the gods of asgard books, the last two books in the trials of apollo series, and the rest of the miscellaneous readings. so very close!

was tagged by the lovely tiffany @stringsofpages june of last year but my procrastinating self has delayed this until now. never too late, and a great start to the new year, am i right? *grasping at straws* do check out tiffany’s blog!

PROMPTS

percy jackson
🌊 your best/favorite book of the year 🌊

as it’s only the beginning of the year, i won’t be choosing a “best” yet. my answer for 2020 is the burning god by r.f. kuang because i can never stop thinking about that ending and what had happened in between. what does this say about me and pain?

annabeth chase
🌊 a book where you’re in awe of the author’s genius πŸŒŠ

a game of thrones by george r.r. martin. although i’ve already watched the tv series, i still couldn’t help but be in awe at his mind and ability to craft such a complex and intricate world. despite the length of the book, i couldn’t stop reading the 800+ pages of drama, politics and world-building.

grover underwood
🌊 a book you love that’s under-hyped 🌊

there are a couple of underhyped books that i absolutely loved. one of them is angelfall by susan ee which is set in a dystopian world with angelic warriors. are you intrigued? because i was. another is the girl and the ghost by hanna alkaf about a lonely girl meeting a ghost, and their adventures while developing a friendship.

luke castellan
🌊 a book that you thought you’d hate but didn’t 🌊

read the mad scientist’s daughter by cassandra rose clarke recently. i went into the book without much expectation so i can’t say that i thought i’d “hate” it. definitely a good surprise. though the book was slower paced than the fantasy books i normally read, i still enjoyed it.

chiron
🌊 a book that will always feel like home 🌊

i mentioned it during my review that the dragon warrior by katie zhao felt really close to my heart. the chinese heritage and culture, the traditions and superstitions and the chinese mythical creatures that the characters faced were so familiar and relatable to me. πŸ’–

tyson
🌊 a book with a sibling relationship you adore 🌊

a sibling relationship that popped up in my mind is the one with the lynch brothers from call down the hawk by maggie stiefvater. ever since the raven boys, these brothers have a semi-volatile relationship. with the youngest, declan and ronan do a great job in taking care of and protecting max. however, between the eldest and the middle child, things are more complicated. regardless, i adore them all.

thalia grace
🌊 a book where time froze when you read it 🌊

we hunt the flame by hafsah faizal did that for me. i couldn’t stop reading it. the fascinating world-building, the silent attraction between nasir and zafira, and the beautifully lush writing roped me in.

nico di angelo
🌊 a well-loved book you love too 🌊

not surprising that i’ll be mentioning these violent delights by chloe gong. it’s such a beloved book by the masses especially with the hype pre-release on twitter. i fell in love with the forbidden romeo and juliet romance between roma and juliette. add in rival gangs in the glitz and glamour of 1920s shanghai, you have an awesome book.

calypso
🌊 a book you’d be marooned on an island with 🌊

gonna reuse a previous answer and say r.f. kuang’s the poppy war trilogy. it might not be the best idea to read a depressing book that’s filled with death and war while i’m marooned on an island WITH NOWHERE TO ESCAPE but i don’t care.

rachel dare
🌊 a book you predict you’ll give 5 stars 🌊

JADE LEGACY by fonda lee. hands down one of my fave authors ever since i read jade city. bless her and her wonderful mind. i can’t wait for the book AND the tv show.

jason grace
🌊 an upcoming book you’d get hit by a brick to read now 🌊

i’m waiting for may 4th to read the ones we’re meant to find by joan he. i’ve been wanting another book from joan he since i read descendant of the crane which was amazing.

piper mclean
🌊 a book you loved that someone convinced you to read 🌊

the wolf of oren-yaro by k.s. villoso was never on my immediate tbr until i bumped it up when it was highly raved by shealea and a bunch of other readers that i followed on twitter.

leo valdez
🌊 the funniest book you’ve read 🌊

not sure if this is the funniest book, but my lady jane by cynthia hand, brodi ashton, and jodi meadows was unexpectedly hilarious. i heard it’s even better if you listen to it as an audiobook.

hazel levesque
🌊 an old book/book you read a long time ago but still love 🌊

always have fond memories whenever i think about the infernal devices by cassandra clare. i’m the kind of reader who will avoid love triangles whenever possible but when it came to jem, tessa and will, i didn’t care about that trope at all. i just wanted them to be happy and healthy and loved.

frank zhang
🌊 a book you were afraid to reach the end of πŸŒŠ

so many!! most of them are fantasy standalone/series that i can’t even imagine how things were going to end… to name a few: the burning god by r.f. kuang, the invisible life of addie larue by v.e. schwab, the burning maze by rick riordan. the last one ripped my heart apart without warning.

reyna ramΓrez-arellano
🌊 a book everyone hates but you love 🌊

i don’t have a particular answer for this since most of the books that i read, majority would love. red queen by victoria aveyard comes to mind but it isn’t as if i have strong positive feelings towards it.

octavian
🌊 a book you would punch without hesitation πŸŒŠ

unfortunately, i didn’t like all your twisted secrets by diana urban. the characters fell flat and stereotypical so they didn’t really appeal to me. plus, the motive of the creator who locked all of them up left a lot to be desired.

percabeth
🌊 a book with the best romance 🌊

JEM, WILL AND TESSA. best romance.

but also, kerri maniscalco’s stalking jack the ripper series has audrey rose and thomas who have the greatest romance ever. they were solving crimes together while developing a deeper relationship.

  2. ahhhh, lovely post belle! i still have the poppy war to read this year (since i promised myself i would) πŸ’– i was so glad when i saw that i was tagged into this since i loved the pjo series.
    oh, and i KNEW stalking jack the ripper would have the best romance! i heard it was mainly focused on the crime mystery bits but now that i heard the romance is good, i’ll definitely read the series! also, as a romeo & juliet fan, the violent delights sound like the perfect book to read in 2021 (;
